The details
The Team
Within a team of 18 people, Lapis’s development department is currently split up into three cross-functional squads, with a view of growing to four down the line, with a view that each squad works on different client projects. The project with Carbon Plus consists of two front end developers and one automated tester/ QA from Lapis and the Head of Product and Head of Design from Carbon Plus. Lapis’ Technical Lead and Principal Software Architect help out as well between squads.
They are a highly agile and fast-moving team and prefer to practice modern development practices like Test Driven Development, CI/CD and collaboration in their programming and problem-solving.
Culture & Values
Lapis’ core values that their team members live and breathe are communication and vulnerability. They provide employees with assistance to an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) to make sure that their mental health is being taken care of. They also emphasize work-life balance and flexible working opportunities.
They are also a highly collaborative and supportive team as previously mentioned and they put a big emphasis on learning and growing as a team and individually in an environment where they are keen to let people do what they need to do in the best way that they can. The team frequently do lunch and learns and “Fix It Fridays.”
Financials & Benefits
Lapis provides great opportunities for growth, development and mentorship for their team members. For example, they are currently putting many of their developers through an AWS certification course. They also make a lot of time for knowledge sharing sessions and regular 1v1s with, not only managers, but also the tech leads for hands-on learning opportunities.
As mentioned, they also provide access to an EAP, flexible working opportunities for team members, and are toying with the idea of trialing a work from anywhere in the world policy in the next year.
